Tips to Keep Your Skin in Good Shape this Winter
Posted by Josh Harrell on 10/26/2011 to Grooming Simplified Series
Although I’m a definite fan of the cooler temperatures in the fall and winter, the colder weather comes with more things to consider when it comes to taking care of your skin. If you’re grabbing your jacket and cap, it’s time to evaluate your skin care ritual and winterize it. To that end, I’ve compiled some tried and true recommendations to help you prepare.
Gray Hair Tops the List of Grooming Concerns Among Men
Posted by Josh Harrell on 6/22/2011 to Grooming Simplified Series
It makes sense that many men are concerned about their hair graying. I do know a few who want the salt and pepper look, but sadly you never know if that's the result you're with which you're going to be graced.

I started going gray as a sophomore in high school which caused me grief thanks to a classmate, Trisha, who sat diagonally behind me in chemistry. She alerted me to the fact that I was going gray almost daily. So let's just say I have had plenty of time to dwell on graying hair and how to battle it.

First off, there is nothing wrong with going gray. It's just not something I am ready to do and if you're like me, here are some do's and don'ts in the battle against gray hair.
How To Pop A Pimple
Posted by Josh Harrell on 3/26/2011 to Grooming Simplified Series
You are not supposed to do it, but you do. So I want to give you a little guidance to make sure you do the right things when popping a pimple.

Not all pimples should be popped. You can do far more damage by attempting to pop pimples that shouldn’t be touched like cysts or pimples deep underneath the skin. In some situations you can actually cause further infection, inflammation and even scarring.

I would only approach white heads and black heads. Anything else, please see a dermatologist for treatment. A doctor will have the ability to get to the bottom of your particular issue and give you relief - you don’t have to live with it.
New Year, New Skin Resolutions
Posted by Josh Harrell on 12/28/2010 to Grooming Simplified Series
As we say goodbye to the past year, many of us are planning a new start to the New Year. Some of us are going to “strap it on” and lose some weight (raising my hand), some of us are going to buckle down and study/work harder (again, raising my hand), some of us are going to commit to taking more risks (not me). Whatever you are planning in the New Year, I ask you take a look at ways you can improve or enhance your skin care routine.
Stinky Feet
Posted by Josh Harrell on 12/19/2010 to Grooming Simplified Series
No, it's not the most glamorous topic to speak on, but I have been bombarded with questions about stinky feet.  It is annoying, embarrassing and some people have to deal with it every single day.  Occasional foot odor is not what I am talking about here.  I want to speak to chronic foot odor.  Those of you who have it, know exactly what I am talking about.

Smells are triggers so I am very sensitive to foot odor.  I have this memory that I cannot shake of my grandmother coming home from work and talking off her shoes.  It was such a specific unpleasant smell that I can still remember to this day.

What causes foot odor?
Aftershave vs. Facial Moisturizer
Posted by Josh Harrell on 11/17/2010 to Grooming Simplified Series
One question I get from many men is: what is the difference between aftershave and facial moisturizers? In most cases they are one in the same.

An aftershave is designed specifically to soothe skin and replenish moisture after shaving. I mean - shaving is a very aggressive action to your skin no matter what products you use. A blade scrapes your skin as it cuts away facial hair; it’s not
Pre-Flight Checklist and Travel Essentials
Posted by Josh Harrell on 10/17/2010 to Grooming Simplified Series
This isn’t an article to promote Jock Soap travel-sized products because, for the time being, we don’t have a lot of products that are made in a size to meet the TSA 3-ounce requirements. The purpose of this article is to talk about what you must have in order to keep your skin looking it’s absolute best while you are traveling away from home.

This fall I have traveled a lot more than I have this entire year and it really brought to my attention all the things I have always done to make sure I have my bases covered while I am away from home. Most of the time I travel on business, which means I have to be prepared for a variety of situations from business meetings/presentations, events and even some photo shoots and interviews. The problem I always face is that my skin is fickle most of the time, but when I travel it is ten times worse. I have to be super-cautious and pack every possible thing I may need no matter what the circumstance.

I start with a dop kit that is stocked with essential items such as:

Getting Started
Posted by Josh Harrell on 5/1/2010 to Grooming Simplified Series
Getting started on a simple and effective skincare regimen begins with determining your particular skin type. This can be accomplished by “listening to your skin”, as described below. However, first it’s important to remember that your skin will go through changes as you mature, as your environment varies, as your emotions bounce back and forth, for example, and even as the seasons change.
